John Cabot University’s unique relationship with leading multinational corporations, embassies, media and international organizations gives degree-seeking and visiting students the opportunity to participate in exclusive internship programs, either for academic credit or purely for valuable hands on experience within your chosen field of interest.
Not For-Credit Internships
Through long standing and mutually beneficial agreements, we have placed students in internships with international profit and not-for-profit organizations that specifically seek out students from JCU: The international focus of our majors, our English language instruction and our multinational, and in many cases bilingual, student body make our students first-run candidates for these distinguished opportunities.
Aside from placing students within a range of not For-Credit internships offered to us, we also help you find an internship if it’s not already available. If you have an active interest and enthusiasm for a particular organization or sector, we will endeavor to help you find some working experience within it to assist your future career development.
Our Career Fairs in April and November also gives you the opportunity to talk to several organizations about internships (please see our ‘Career Fairs’ pages).

For-Credit Internships
I. Goals and Objectives
JCU is an American institution of higher education located in Rome, Italy. The primary mission of the University is to provide an educational experience that, while firmly rooted in the American tradition of liberal arts and sciences, is strongly international in orientation. The academic programs are designed to use to the fullest extent the special resources of a multicultural faculty and student body.
As part of its mission, the University is committed to providing its honors students with opportunities that enable them to appreciate and benefit from the richness and diversity of other cultures and encourages them to accept responsibility and to make positive contributions to an increasingly interdependent and multicultural world.
The For-Credit Internship Program
JCU’s Internship Program provides qualified undergraduates and graduates with quality, experiential work opportunities in their field of study. As an American Liberal Arts university, JCU considers experiential learning an essential part of the individual learning process as well as, an important step in preparing its students for their future careers.
What is a For-credit Internship?
An internship is a short-term employment opportunity, often unpaid, that allows the intern to combine classroom learning with hands-on work experience prior to graduation. In the program, a student:
- Earns up to 3 credit hours/per internship), while gaining practical experience in a work environment
- Works for an organization for a 120 to 150 contact hours during a normal 14-week semester
- Receives a Pass/Not Pass grade, given by a member of the John Cabot Faculty
A successful internship should produce significant learning through: exposure to "real" projects and organizational problems; development of technical skills needed in a chosen field and increased insight regarding the organizational work environment and the interns own strengths and weaknesses in the chosen field.
